I'm not sure about what to think of SMU this season. I also think that ND has played a pretty soft schedule while getting beaten by a very weak team. Otherwise I feel that the rankings are about right based upon what transpired last weekend and where we are at in the season. Now there is still one more weekend of football to be played by a few teams while others get to sit on a bye week. I also feel odd about that.

#5 in CFP is the best draw. Teams are better off losing championship games to have a shot at that #5 seed.

Maybe. Although I agree with your strategy it still feels like a battle for mediocrity instead of trying to be the best.

And this committee has done what it wants to do based upon its own reasoning (or none at all), so the polls hold little merit right now in reality

I don't disagree. When have 2 and 3 loss teams ever been relevant in the national championship conversation? IMO, none of these #13-25 teams have any right to complain about not making the cut. Arguably every team that's not top 4 is being gifted a shot at the championship.

I definitely feel that there have been years where the top 4 have not been chosen, or that there are strong arguments for 5-6 teams, but the current setup is kinda ridonculous where the 12 that are chosen may not even be the top 12, and some better teams may be penalized for being better than others that get a bye.

The selection criteria sucks and the bracketing sucks. But it is what it is. Maybe "they" will fix it in the next year or two, but more than likely the "fix" will be worse than what they were trying to solve. It's still fun for now, but feeling more and more "tainted" every season

Be 16 teams next year

What happens if clemson wins? They kicking smu out? It will be interesting how they punish or not punish conference championship games.
The shouldn't they came out and said they will not punish teams playing in conference champ game. I would understand knocking a 3 loss team out that picks up a 4th loss like Clemson.

You can't make that statement then leave out a 11-1 team that lost a conference chip game. And give teams like 10-2 Ohio st and 11-1 Noter Dame home games that didn't even play in one.

If they do that, No one besides 3 loss teams that have no other chance of getting in will want to play in a conference chip.

I do think Tennessee should be 6 and OSU should be 7. I think SMU will be in win or lose. Unless is a blowout maybe.
I just hope The Mustang's win the ACC and I hope Georgia beats Texas.
