Had a camera out over some salt for three weeks, saw two bucks - one decent, one really nice. Just one visit from each of them, both in the small hours of the morning.

Left it up for two more weeks - again, one good buck, showed up once in midafternoon and stayed about half an hour but never came back. One doe wandered into camera range, never bothered the salt as far as I could tell.

I would think that as hot as it's been, once the deer found a source of salt they would return to it?

Every location is unique. In some areas, deer virtually live at the salt licks. In other areas, they hardly touch it.

Try as many different attractants as you can think of until you find what works best for your area.

BSK, when do you normally see bucks move off of your salt (i.e. quit getting them regularly on your cameras over salt licks)?

Once velvet sheds. I will still see a little buck usage until the weather turns cool, but the big drop-off is velvet shedding.
