Didn't get to hunt all last week due to family vacation while kids where on fall break but got in Saturday night just before midnight so packed things up and headed out Sunday morning. Morning was awesome as I had a small 4 pointer and 2 eights come by. One eight was big and the other looked to be a minimum 3.5 year old. Maybe 4 year old. Unfortunately 40 yards was as close as they got and I never had a shot.
Mid day I scouted looking for acorns and on the 5th spot I stopped by bingo. About 5 trees were dropping and it was obvious the deer were hitting them. About 2pm I grabbed my climber and settled in. Other than squirrels, not much happened until about 5:30. I looked up and 7 does fed right to the group of oaks I was near. I was nervous as a cat about getting busted with all those eyes around but finally was able to draw and release.
The shot was far back and I was immediately cursing myself for a bad shot. She ran about 35 yards and stood there for a few seconds and just fell over grave yard dead. I guess I just got lucky and severed a big artery. Not my best shot but I guess dead is dead.
Anyway, glad to get the monkey off my back this year for archery. Love some fresh tenderloin and backstraps.
