I was head over heels in love with deer hunting 20 + years ago. Then I lost my hunting area and quit. I now have about 250 acres to hunt and I'm going out this coming weekend to walk it for the first time. I used to hunt lock-on stands but given my advancing age, I'm going to go with Family Traditions ladder stands. These are heavy duty but pricey. Is there an effective way to lock ladder stands so turds won't steel them?

Second question, half of this property is CRP. What can be done, legally, to improve the feed within these fields?

Chain and lock might help with the stands. A thief is a thief! Crp? Not sure of. Fertilizing native browse can improve the quality of the browse along with lime. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome back!! I wish I knew a good way to secure a ladder stand so thieves wouldn't make off with them. I quit using hang on stands on our place because I live too far away to check often enough and someone was using their five finger discount card and helping themselves to a few of them.

I replaced a few of them with ladder stands and so far, the thieves have left the ladders alone. They aren't quite as easy to make off with I guess, or there are just lazy thieves that come on my place.

The only thing I can think of is put a separate cable and lock on each section of ladder, but that might be too much expense and trouble. Good luck with it and again, welcome back.

Cable locks are about worthless. Anyone with a portable Sawsall can cut through them pretty quick.

Get a portable welding torch and run a couple of loos of rebar around the tree and attach to upper. Won't stop them if they are bound and determined but it might make them go somewhere else for a easier target.

A removable seat are the kind I use...if they steal one they'll have to buy a seat is my thinking. But you can't stop a thief...
