Old Hickory Hybrids

Hit old Hickory this week in search of a trash fishing fix (skip Jack). They were not pulling water so the the skippies were few and far between. I switched to some striper patterns I wanted to test out and managed to boat 11 of these between 2 and 4 pounds.

All I see is a red X. Glad the hybrids are there and willing.

A buddy went tooday and caught a bunch of big skipjack, 5 hybrids, and a 13 lb. striper.

I wasn't there so I can't say, but what the thread doesn't mention is that these folks are fly fishing. They (we) use sinking fly lines.

For skipjack, usually stripping back very quickly and using a small Couser Minnow yields good numbers of TN tarpon. You pick up a few hybrids and stripers this way too. Sauger, largemouth, smallies, yellow bass, bluegill can be incidentally caught this way too.

I've found that much bigger streamers (Dahlberg Divers, 1/2 and 1/2s, etc.) stripped slower and closer to the bottom catch the bigger stripers and hybrids.
