i just moved close the dam i was wondering if there is good crappe fishin if so can you catch them in the winter if so what jigs or bait?

people catch em in the lake but I'm not the one to ask... would like to learn how myself

I did catch one below the dam a year or two ago, but there aren't usually crappie below the dam.

I've never caught a crappie there nor heard of people catching them there. That water moves pretty quickly when they're generating and I think it's quite a bit faster than crappie would like. I could be wrong though. I've caught or seen people catch white bass, stripers, hybrids, large and smallmouth bass, catfish, sauger, and walleye below OHD.

There are crappie below the dam. We catch them up against the wall by the generators and in the lock area using minnows or jigs, either will catch them.

I have had an old guy tell me he goes out in his boat directly at the deep water edge of the channel near the Rockland park side, and fish down to where they are hanging for the given temps of the time of year....He said he doesn't have to be too near the dam, but below the the entrance to the Rockland boat ramp. I've never had any personal luck, but he showed me two coolers loaded with Crappie and even Blue Gill. Kinda hard to call him a liar if you see fish for proof. If you have any luck, be sure to report back your GPS location......;/)

I've aught 14 species of fish below the dam, including crappie. I used to do a lot of after dark walleye fishing in the winter, and caught a few crappie on six-inch long rapalas. This was on the northern shoreline about straight across from the end of the lock wall.

Sadly, that methd of catching walleye has sucked since they added a lot more riprap below the dam about 10 years ago.
