I don't believe that him killing that buck won't help his genetics... bucks have more offspring than does therefore killing him keeps his genes from getting as widespread. Bucks have doe babies also so his genes are passed to them. This is a false statement. Basic genetics tells you half your genetic make up comes from mom and half from dad... there is no way that the doe determines the fawns antler growth. It's a bell curve when u breed animals. I raise reg. Angus cattle and genetics and genomics are a big deal. If u breed a top end buck to a top end doe, the chances of a bad buck fawn are slim. But if u breed a bad buck to a good genetic doe, the fawn will either be right in the middle or could take more after mom or dad depending on how things work out. I'd have to see a lot of scientific evidence to change my opinion about that. If that's the case, why do deer breeders use their best genetic bucks on their does and why do they use artificial insemination... It's a combo. U can make a stud buck with a good doe and a bad buck but the chances are he will fall in the middle. Some of my cows pass their genes stronger to their offspring when I genetically test them with DNA testing. Cows and deer would be the same. Some does may be more dominant over a buck with their genes but it's gonna be 50 50 on their genetic make up no matter what. Now some people think the doe doesn't have any affect. That's false. That's why does have pedigrees in deer farming just like bucks do. U take the best does and best bucks to make the best offspring. Although some may come out on the worst side of the genetics from mom and dad and may not be as good as either one. Some may be better. That's why we genetically test all our cows and use the best of the best for embryo transfer in our herd. But not all calves get the best traits and their genomic ratios can come out worse than mom and dad. I just don't see the doe only affecting the antler growth... not at all. U did a great job shooting the cull buck. He's gonna produce way more offspring than 1 doe will. And his offspring will pass on the same genes whether they're does or bucks... as far as the age of the buck id need to see some teeth to determine if he is a cull but if u dont like his genes getting passed around then take him out then your future does and bucks won't have as good a chance of having this odd rack
