okra is plentiful here. started with 2 slices of bentons bacon and about 1/2 a chopped onion. then added sliced okra and diced fresh tomatoes. cooked it till the snot went away . serving with pintos, cornbread and salmon patties.

I spent years trying to figure out how my grandmother made it. Turned out it was simple, get the oil good and hot and don't pile too much in at one time. Cooks up nice and crispy without breading.

Toast some cumin seed in your skillet, Careful not to scorch it. Add some EVOO... then sauté onion till soft....add okra and fry on medium high until kinda crisp.

Goes great with steak.

WE like to split it longways down the middle, toss in olive oil, salt & pepper, then roast until crispy

i make a sauce to baste whole on the grill. couple of cloves minced garlic, a couple of table spoons soy sauce and water, japanese vinegar and sesame oil(ootional). skewer up and baste while grilling. sprinkle with coarse kosher salt when done, (optional as well). absolutely no slime.

I love fried okra. A friend of mine makes pickled okra that is crazy good I can't eat it fast enough.

Love okra too!
If you're ever in the old part of Cookeville near the depot, a restaurant there called Seven Senses has an okra appetizer that is great. It's
short whole okra pods deep fried and salted. Yum!

Small fresh picked okra is fabulous raw. Rinse it and dry , with a little ranch. I didn't believe it til I tried it. Since trying that I have started grilling it , and not over cooking it. It's a very healthy vegetable
