Thanks to Jbird22 I'm fixed up with a helix5 di gps. I want to get a contour topo map with 1 or 2 ft of elevation. I don't know what to get to be compatible with that unit? I'm looking around and see lakemaster and navionics cards but I really don't understand the differences.
Also if i get the right card will the waypoints appear on it?

You're gonna want the LakeMaster card. The waypoints will be created by the unit itself when you save a waypoint. Once created, they will show up on your map screen if that's what you're asking.

Which LakeMaster card do I get for a gen 1 helix?

You just need a lake master map for the area you plan on fishing. Super easy plug and play

I got a lakemaster midsouth but it was for Texas and down that way so It's going back, I saw midsouth and thought I was good.👎
I just ordered a Navionics+ U.S. South.....maybe it's right, this stuff is too complicated.

it was either include mapping like everyone else on their new units to increase sales or go bankrupt. johnson outdoors is in a pretty tough spot.

Ok so I got a navionics+ card, what now? Just plug it in? It's got some papers that say something about opening an account?

I have a helix 7. I just plugged my navionics card in the sd slot and then go to the lake, turn on, and go to the topo map. I don't remember having to get an account. Not sure on that.

You should start an account to get updates for your card. If you use navionics with garmin you can get the updates though active captain. On helix you have to use your home computer.

I put the card i and it brought the navionics mapping up. I don't know why you'd need updates but I glad I've got what I have. Gonna try it Saturday.
you should be able to check on the garmin map site and see what updates are available.

they do updates as new map cartography comes available (updates to structure, countour lines, etc)

keep in mind with garmin products youre 1 year update calendar doesnt start until the date you register it.
