Carry all your crap in the woods? I have a huge frame pack i stuff all my cold weather gear in and it probably weighs 25 or so pounds my summit weighs 23. Plus gun and what ever else. It is really just getting tiresome i used to carry it on my deer cart and still can but talk about loud going through the woods you couldnt sneak up on a deaf deer and get in the stand. It always seemed i would spook deer out and the wouldnt come back til late morning and i would soon burn a place out hunting it a couple of times with all the racket. Just looking for some alternatives. I cannot wear all the clothes and walk a mile to my stand sights even my loc ons and ladders are to far to walk with all the gear on. So lets hear it

I strap all of my clothes to my summit and carry that way.

exactly what Larry said. I strap my jacket and bibbs on my summit. Carry my rifle in one hand flashlight in the other. I should use a headlamp.

I usually stuff my bibs and heavy coat in my stand so I don't have to tote a large backpack. I have a small pack I'll put on first then my climber with bibs and jacket stuffed or strapped to them and walk slow so I don't get as sweaty.

I have a tree stand pack, I think it's made by game gear that is attached to my stand. It makes your stand more like a hiking pack so you can strap it to your waist to get the pressure off your shoulders. I then just hook my backpack onto the stand with a carabiner and pack everything in that way.

In the last three years, I shot ten deer and only two have been from a stand. Granted, I'm always in a stand in bow season, I've just never gotten a deer with my bow. I'm either in a ground blind or just on the ground. This morning I brought one of those canvas lawn chairs, backed it up to a tree, threw a tree umbrella up above me. I put up one of those turkey blinds in front of me just help hide movement. Shot one around 8:00. I love it. I guess it's just more peaceful to me because I'm not thinking about being 20' off the ground.

As for die-hard carrying, I just use a big pack. If I'm going to do a lot of carrying or walking, I go through the gear bag the night before to be sure nothing but the essentials goes in. Usually I put the climber on my back and wear the backpack on my front. It looks weird, but it works. I usually have to carry the gun instead of slinging it because it'll knock the climber when I walk if I don't.

I strap it all to my summit climber. I carry a back pack that get strapped to the top of the climber and I always drape ot tie my jacket and bibs to the climber as well. Use a headlamp and carry the gun.

Get a deer cart, use it to help with carrying your gear, and helps with getting the deer out.

Also for just carrying your gear, a golf cart works good, but usually the wheels aren't very large and can be difficult to pull our over logs and such.

Been there do that its just loud and cumbersome walking in the dark through the woods

I do put some stands up before season. Leaving my climber couple of days before i hunt. I don't know its a ways to where i hunt and going in twice seems like as much hassle as i what i do know.

I don't hunt from a stand so that's not a problem for me. I carry a lightweight cheap walmart camo backpack and roll up my super heavy outerwear and tie it with a rope then I tie it around my back pack. Looks funny but works well for hunting the mountains.

Like Poser said, I hunt from the ground 80% of the time when carrying a firearm. I can't stand managing the logistics of carrying crap in and crap + deer out on every hunt - it sucks the fun out of the situation for me. I will use a climber if hunting a spot that requires it, or if setting up for a long-term sit over an area at the peak of the rut. The rest of the time, I like to run lean and mean.

New system this year! Summit Goliath with a 5.11 Rush 12 bag and my insulated parka and bib overalls. Everything "nests" very well. I hiked all over LBL this year. It's all about weight distribution. At 50 years old I managed just OK. Came home and had some pretty serious back and shin pain but I'm good now.

I strap my jacket and bib overalls to my pack. If carrying a stand, which i rarely do, I strap everything to it and try to scale back on what's in my pack.

I have a tripod stand and also a small barn where I sit to hunt gun season. I keep the heavy clothes (except rain wear)heavy gloves for extreme cold and warmer hat in picnic cooler. I anchor the cooler down and do not have heavy coat and overalls in pack. I have necessary clothing at each location. I wear just enough clothing to keep me warm while walking to blind or stand. This is the correct amount of clothing when I decide to still hunt thru the woods if nothing is happening in the field where blind is set. This reduces the weight in back pack by 15 pounds. The back pack is now comfortable enough to wear for hours still hunting thru woods at a very slow pace.

I rarely hunt from a stand during gun or muzzleloader unless its a tight spot and I know I'll be busted by does waiting for a buck. I have a Cabela's Outfitters pack with a compression pod that'll let me strap a lot of extra clothes and maybe a small stool or chair. It's also big enough for all the food I'll need for the day. That's my all day/public land pack.

When I hunt the farm I just carry a drink and some TP in a small shoulder pack.

I have one stand that I hunt out of (summit viper ultimate) I hunt a ton of different trees and carry my stand in and out of the woods every single time. I have long walks to every place that I hunt and I stuff everything into my backpack then put it on the climber and use the bungee that goes behind your feet of the climbing stirrups to secure it. I really need to get some better straps and I think they would make all the difference in the world. Gun or bow in hand, headlamp.
