Im planning a trip to hunt gov. Land in ohio this year with my bow october 4th thru the 8th. Anyone have any advice on where to go, certain areas better than others inside the state forests. Any good lodging or cabins to rent near there? Possibly camping? Its my first trip to ohio and none of us know what to expect really but we are all excited. We are going to go scout around september 10th. We are thinking about brush creek state forest or shawnee forest or wayne. Someone told me there is a new place that just opened in adams county but they couldnt remember the name of it. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me wpuld be great. Pm me or on here fowsnt matter. Thanks in advance.
 
Shawnee forest has a lot of land too hunt with alot of big mature bucks but is steep and rough terrain it's similar to East Tennessee terrain .BrushCreek and WNF are similar as well but get a lot more hunting pressure than the SNF . The SNF has some very nice cabins and camping spots to rent also.. I have hunted a lot of the southern parts of Ohio in the last 20+ yrs. ,you can PM me if you have any questions ..
 
Personally unless you got Intel to a good buck or crop fields, I would wait until a later date. November.

We may go back end of october or november also. I think im narrowed down to brush creek state forest or shawnee. I think shawnee seems to have more areas where i can get deep in the woods but i really dont know. We are going to scout here soon so trying to decide on where to look at.

If I only had a week to hunt up there on public land ,I would pick the last week of Oct. or the first week in Nov.
 
I have 2 buddy's who spent a week st Shawnee last year. They said definitely big deer there but extremeley tough hunting if you aren't around the agriculture. Up and down country with thick cover. I'd scour the maps for the closest land to ag.
 
I hunted Shawnee national forest 2 years ago for the first time. There are Definitely big deer there but like muddy boots said it is very very rough terrain. I passed a lot of bucks and had a chance at a good mature 8 point, 130"-135". Shoot me a pm if I can help.

I hunted Southern Ohio public land last year with some advice from a friend that has hunted it the last 10+ years and I have this year planned for the 1st weekend in November this year. I had a good time last year and tagged out on the 3rd day. Some big deer are there but some very rough terrain.
I have to plan and book my lodging as soon as possible. This year I booked my room in April and there was not many options left so I will probably book for next year in December this year for next year.
 
I honestly wouldnt stay at rocky creek last year was our last year there they cant keep reservations and are lettibg alot of lical stay there and i was afraid to leave anything in the bed of my truck i used to love it there but its went down hill dramatically
