Since I have to be to school by 7am....hunting is limited, but I have a farm that is 15 minutes from the school....so I hunt till 630....no matter what I pick up and go. I have been out there twice and never heard a bird....but that was during windy weather, so seeing the forecast I figured I'd give it a go. Nothing gobbled before daybreak, but as the sun rose, birds piped up, roughly 3-4 different birds in different areas, one was close, probably 200yds away in the bottoms. I called a little bit with the glass and mouth....he flew down to my left just over the hill, he gobbled as he came, then he got quiet. He came up about 20 degrees to where I was pointed, I only moved my eyes, he putted....I could have snap shot, he was only 15 yards away, but he was just over a hill....so all I could see was head/neck, I couldn't tell if it was a longbeard, he went back down the hill and I saw him on a trail about a 100yds away....so I picked up the binoculars....yep, a longbeard. This is the second time that this has happened to me this year. He started to gobble again and gobbled at what I threw at him, but he was going the other way....should have used the decoy. I am going out tonight about 5pm. It sounds like the flocks are starting to break up and the Toms are searching a bit more.

Nothing worse than sitting in class hoping he is still in the area when you get out there. Hopefully you get him soon.
