Also does anyone use a bucks tarsal glads for a drag or uses it to bring in dominant bucks.

The false rut in October usually is a great indicator of peak breeding a month later in November. Peak daylight mature buck movement is usually the 10-days prior to peak breeding. So this year, I would expect peak breeding on my place to be Nov. 11-16, with peak mature buck movement being Nov. 1-10.

News is running the annual "watch out for deer while driving" story. Saw it on Channel 2 last night and just heard it on 1510 WLAC AM today. They report "deer hunting and mating season" has begun. I get excited everytime they run that story.

I have my trail cam on video. Looked at some this morning. The last one I had from yesterday morning was a spike lip curling and bid dogging a doe. LOL The little ones are fired up. Like bsk said bout 3 1/2 weeks away here.

Unfortunately, I don't have any data from that area. Most of my data comes from the Cheatham, Williamson, Dickson, Hickman, Humphreys, Perry, Benton county areas.

One thing I've noted on trail-cameras on large properties is how dramatically yearling bucks are expanding their ranges right now. Usually, they start moving first, followed by the older bucks in a week or two. Pictures from the first two weeks of October show a sudden shift in where I get individual yearling bucks on camera, from one or two predictable locations to all over the place. They are really starting to wander great distances.

On my way home from East TN yesterday I saw a doe and a nice 8 run over on 40 close to Cookville. They where about 50' apart.

Last week I stopped for a young pregnant lady that just hit a 8 Pt buck. Not sure what got him moving but was way out in Bedford cty. She was shaken up but i lighten it up by telling her she got a nice buck and asked if she wanted the rack.

Wow two eight points hit by two different cars. I hope nobody gets mad at when I don't respond to the flash light you out thing. I guess at 60 mph in my tahoe through the woods I can't see that good. I mean if this is how I have to get my first ever buck, haven't had a claim on a wreck in twenty six years lol.

Drove from Knoxville to Memphis today and deer movement was unbelievable until almost noon. Left home at 8 am and saw deer all along the rd. also saw I think 7 hit from last night. 2 decent bucks in the group hit Would have liked to be in a tree this morn.

For the guy asking about putnam co i have hunted putnam for over 30 years and most of those years opening morning gun rut is usually in full swing. Last year it hit early by opening morning of gun bucks was already locked down with does and it was a slow week.But usually for us and guys that hunt around us the opening of gun thru Thanksgiving is a good time to be in the woods.


BSK i still have about 3 shooters(3.5 or older) showing up on trail cams. Sunday i pulled my cards same 3 shooters plus i had a new old buck show up. Never have seen this buck i mean i have ran like 3 cams over the last 3 years he nowhere on radar he looks to be 4.5 or older.Is this a good sign he has moved in?? My flat off the point where i pulled these pics of him is torn up big rubs and two fresh scrapes!

Im still seeing a lot of the mature deer still displaying summer-like behavior. hanging in bachelor groups and hitting the food sources at fairly predictable times, but they have entered from a different place almost everytime, hence why I haven't connected yet. I am starting to see the young bucks break off however and begin to show a little rut like behavior but I guess I would relate that to the story of "the old bull and the young bull"...

Definitely what I'm seeing. The older (3 1/2+) bucks hadn't starting expanding their ranges yet, but the yearlings sure have!

Earlier--and in some areas MUCH earlier--than normal rut timing was the norm for many regions of the state last year, especially those areas with an early to mid-November rut. Those regions with a peak breeding normally in December didn't seem to be as effected.

Not at all uncommon to pick up the first mature range-shifters in mid-October. The peak of range shifting/expanding is usually the two week prior to peak breeding, but it can happen any time after velvet shedding.

I hit a 6 or an 8pt last night on I65. He was in a dead sprint across the interstate. But I've seen lots of deer hit lately. Its good to see them moving out and about now. Should be good to go opening ML weekend.
