So a few of y'all showed interest when I mentioned working on an oak tree ID guide a couple months back. I have not finished yet, and still have to add a couple more species to the list if I can get pics before the leaves are gone. The existing pages still need tweaking and a few more pics and info, so bear with me, it's still a work in progress

I'll be doing a video soon to cover some of the more common species and how they relate to deer hunting, but for now, they are live on the website. All of the pics were taken in Tennessee.

The page is password protected since I'm not done with it yet. Password is chinkapin

I still have to do Nuttall oak, cherrybark oak and swamp white oak. Those don't grow wild in middle TN, so I have to go to residential areas where they were planted, or drive to west TN.

Oh and big thanks to @fulldraw for helping me out with ID questions over the summer. I've learned like 3x as much this year as I knew before. He knows his stuff.

Dude....this is amazing. Did you search out and take all of the pictures? Also, I have a big Swamp White Oak in my backyard (according to my father in law and it does look like it according to the guidebooks) if you want to take some pics. Leaves are still on. I live in Brentwood.

Thanks for taking to time to share the knowledge you have gathered. I will look at the page this evening. Currently, I can not enter after password entry. It may be the "work" wifi internet preventing that.

Thanks, I may take you up on that. They are losing leaves quickly. I work in cool springs, will send you a PM

Catman, its asking for a password to view. I would love to share this with my virtual natural resources class

I took a peak, this is awesome. I moved into a house and don't know what i got. I can tell you you cannot walk my backyard without rolling your ankles. My wife was hit in the top of the head with one the size of a golf ball, green. I am also covered up in deer because of it. Send me a pm and if i have any trees, I will take whatever pics you need and email them to you, I'm in Hamilton County. Also sign me up on this as I need some help with tree ID. Embarrassing when someone asks if i have seen acorns dropping, deer eating and all i can say is "don't know but the squirrel's are fat" lol.

I appreciate all your hard work Catman. I have been excited to have this at my fingertips while in the woods. I have referenced the University of Tennessee publication for help identifying oaks, however, yours is much more user friendly...even for someone with a biology degree! I'm excited for your video and your finished product. Good luck everybody with the rest of your seasons!

Thanks. Vanderbilt university has a really helpful page comparing features among most or all of the oaks found in TN, with lots of pictures. I learned some from them

This is awesome! Thanks catman. I've been trying to identify every tree I walk past. People look at me weird at work when I'm staring at a tree..

Very helpful, many times I stand there wondering or looking up species on google sifting through possibilities.

Pretty cool information. Never heard of sun and shade variables on the leaves shape and color. Really like that I can expand the images on my desktop and still get a clear view. Any plans to do one on native browse preferences of deer?

I may do something with browse in the future, but there are so many different kinds of plants out there and deer will eat most of them.

I've been digging into learning more about the different ones that I wasn't as familiar with since you started posting about them. The post oak was one of the few tricky ones that I remembered from my Boy Scout days. I've got all the places you'd need if you come towards Memphis
