Believe it or not on the land I hunt I always seem to experience a dramatic decrease in deer movement in November regardless of weather conditions. Now, the deer I hunt don't seem to start crusing until about December 15 and chasing really good until about Christmas. I just assume becasue our deer herd rut later we experience the October lull later. October is a really good month on our property but November isn't. I guess my question is, does deer movement significantly decrease just prior to the rut and why if it does? Or does my hunting stategy need to be tweaked. It's weird but I see this pattern every year and I hunt my rear off.
 
My opinion is you need to change something, as the so called October lull is just a myth. Deer dont have a calendar and they dont ever have to stop being deer, eating, moving, etc. Things change drastically in October and maybe Nov on your place, just takes keeping up with them. Good luck.

That's what I'm thinking as well. I'm just North of you gh, and I've seen good chasing since the first of ML season, with estrous chases since opening day of rifle season. I'm now experienceing a decrease of sightings as well, but I'm just about sure that most of the limited number of does in our area are in process, or already have been bred at this point.
 
I hunt southern Franklin and Marion county where it was confirmed via a study performed this year that the does are concieved late. I think BGG posted up a map on another thread recently that shows the conception dates.
 
The farm I hunt seems to be nearly the same. Where I hunt there is a lot of cover in surrounding areas and on the land I hunt so it seems there not moving as much cause there not being seen. After most of the does are bred they begin to get out more looking for does later in the year and also they say young does come in heat later so there more likely to drag a bucks out of cover rather than the older does than come in heat earlier. but that's just my opinion. Lol
 
From what I'm hearing they were chasing hard on the mountain this past weekend. A few nice ones taken, one 13pt killed while 4 bucks was chasing one doe. But I'm with you the best is yet to come for us.
