I know a celebrity in the sports field(Nashville guy) that killed a HUGE buck a few years ago in middle Tn. I am talking probably one of the biggest killed in TN. I thought about mentioning the site to him and having him join or atleast lurk. Then I was reminded why I don't.

Guy posts a pic of a SMOKIN deer that ANYone of us would kill and this comment was made. Thankfully almost all of you congratulate guys and gals that are successful and encourage those that make a marginal shot and feel down in the dumps for it. That is what this community is all about. This is a reminder to those that want to be arm-chair quarterbacks to take the high road and bite your tongue on occasion.

Amen. Same can be said for people who like to blast others for practicing catch and eat instead of catch and release. If you want to eat a Smallie, eat one. They taste good to me. If you want to shoot a huge buck, shoot it. If you prefer does, shoot them.

Keyboard warriors - either encourage and congratulate your fellow anglers/hunters (unless of course they're doing something totally unethical or illegal) or keep quiet. That's what the community should be.

there are days i wish i never posted my buck you get blasted for shooting small bucks lil does button buck and even big buck

like i have always been taught if you dont have noting good to say just be quiet


this is where we as hunters fail miserably as a group

trad archery hate compounds
compounds hate x bow
trad ml
hate inlines
inlines hate smokeless

big buck lil buck
baiting

so forth and so on

hunters will be the end of hunting

I agree with you, but I don't think calling someone out by name is the proper way to deal with this. A PM to Cecil 30-30 would have been more appropriate if you have an issue with him. Or, make it as an anonymous quote.

I think this sentence is important. The overwhelmingly majority of the comments on kill pics are congratulatory, and that is great. It would be nice if all comments were congratulatory and supportive, but I don't think that is realistic given human nature. I absolutely agree that when it comes to pics of legal, ethical kills, if people don't have anything nice to say, they shouldn't say anything at all.

yea that's laughable that people gave me heck for eating smallmouth. Yeah maybe it took 7 years to grow, but you'd be pretty happy if you killed and ate a deer that took 7 years. Smallmouth is one of my most favorite freshwater fish to eat, topped only by walleye and sauger.

And then there's those who say to buy a Butterball instead of kill a hen turkey in the fall or bushwhack a gobbler. If I just wanted a butterball I wouldn't hunt for turkeys. Come on the last thing you should do is talk down a fellow hunter or fisherman for bringing home meat to eat, that's how it all started thousands of years ago.

The way I see it is if we didn't have different opinion's there wouldn't be much to talk about. This thread is the perfect example. Just think if we all agreed on buckshot, deer limits, football teams, union or not, and the list could go on. This would be a boring place. Just in my opinion.

Good post Rich and yes JEALOUSY is 99% of where the negative comments come from. That said questioning some ones scoring of a deer in a polite manner isn't a negative post imo either. Simply asking a polite question is a long way from the example given here, which is sad!

Yes, that's the flip side.

In my opinion it's about respect, perspective, and being teachable, when it comes to discussing and articulating different opinions. And of course, it's also easy to TRY to judge someone's motive or intent in a post....instead of treating them the way you'd want to be treated and just take it word for word at face value. But to the OP, it's generally best that folks not type a post if they think there's a good chance it won't be received in a positive manner. I mean, what's the point?

For education purposes maybe...? Had a buddy that wanted to start managing his property a little better this year. He called me up and said he just shot a 3 year old, 120" deer. He sent me a pic and I could tell it was not near 120". Should I just let him keep believing that it was 120" or should I educate him and the size it really is?

Happens in every state. Always a few who feel there's no way a person could kill a better buck than they can and do it legally.

If your buddy is serious about want to manage his land then yes, you should tell him. You don't have to tell him in a demeaning way. Just help him learn how to field judge and how to measure one when he does kill one. There is s really good article on here about field judging, I think it is in the QDMA thread.

Here's my opinion, which isn't worth much but hunting is not looked at as a team sport, but it should be because we are all on the same team and should be proud for each other and when your season is not going good you should be able to call upon any of us for encouragement. And when you have success you should be able to share it with us and not worry about what anyone says. I say keep posting your pics cause I love to see them all.

Assuming you are respectful, I see no issue with questioning someones score of a deer they killed. If you are inclined to post the score then that typically means you care about the score. Why would you not want to know what it really scores or educate the person questioning you?

Yes, a lot of the post could be deemed criticism and left to PM's or simply left alone.

you could measure it with him and then go "hmm not quite as big as it looked but still a very nice deer" i see a lot of poor guesses on score here, but the last time to correct someone is when they are all excited that they just killed it. Let them enjoy the kill that's a trophy in their eyes, that's what hunting is about
