Not to hijack/ salt lick

I have rarely actually seen deer at a saltlick during the season,a few times,but not often.The licks at my place rarely look as if they are not being used,covered in tracks,just have rarely seen one actually at the TR,salt lick etc,during daylight,during hunt season.

How about you?

I have but its not all that often either. Usage really slows down about late August around velvet shed time for me. I keep cameras on 2 of my licks all through season and it has always slowed way down.

One of my leases has a salt lick I literally stumbled into. I almost broke my leg in it before daylight one morning when I stepped in it. It is very old, and about two feet deep. Year before last I killed 4 deer off that lick. I watched two of then literally get down on their knees to reach the bottom of it before I shot them. The last one I killed off that lick was during muzzleloader.

I've killed quite a few deer with a bow off one of mine. A new one I started last year was still getting killed the last week of bow season last year. Others are already slowIng down like other people are noting.

We have a large one on our lease, been there for years. There is always tracks in it which leads me to believe they walk through it to get where there going year round. I could see someone mistaking it for an active salt lick during deer season.

I'm always amazed by the differences in salt-lick usage from property to property. Some areas see year-round use of their salt-licks, while other areas' salt-lick usage virtually ceases by early October.

My place they tear 'em up once they find them...then they dig big holes in the dirt where the salt lick was..tracks everywhere and if there is grass it's worn off and/or packed down

I have mixed results with differnt types of salt/mineral licks.
A spot I hunt close to the house has a two foot hole deep by 4 ft long and 4 ft wide that they tore the black magic up, now on my lease they wont touch black magic but love the liquid deer cane, or trophy rock either one but the spot close to my house they chose the black magic over either of the other two. But I have killed a few does over my black magic whole in years past with bow.

Haven't checked my mine in over a month. Hope they are still using them. I won't get much hunting in but sure would like to continue to get pictures of what is our there.
