A couple small bucks and a couple of does passed through this morning. Nothing else seen. Moved a couple of cameras but most scrapes have gone dormant for the time being. It's lonely hunting a big buck if he's virtually the only deer in the area and is a no show. Maybe next trip...

I have 4 big bucks on camera I have yet to see. Reckon they could have wandered a ways during the rut and got killed. Hoping they just did there business during first rut and have laid low since and maybe will show up during second rut.

I know there are at least 2 good bucks using this area. Crossing paths is tricky.

Saw no deer today but heard more shooting late afternoon. There are 2 scrawny racks that need to be removed from the gene pool in my area. One long spice and other side is small 3 points. Trying to eliminate these bucks. Friends are after large antlers, I am after meat for the year.

7 does and 4 bucks this afternoon. Bucks still pushing the does around here. Saw about a 115 - 120" 8 this morning that had a doe hemd up in the corner of a fence a couple miles from the house on way to work.

I understand if your after meat. But can you elaborate more on the scrawny bucks? Are they cull deer? I understand cull deer as an excuse to shoot a less than desirable deer. I also have read where its hard to control the gene pool in a wild heard.

Its a totally different ball game when hunting for just one deer. Mike, hang in there. You are due. Sooner or later, it will come together. The main ingredient on taking a older mature deer is being where one is to begin with. Then, its so hard, and takes lots of luck to get that five second window to take him. Still, its lots of fun. Only deer seen today were grazing on front yard of houses inside city limits. Have not seen any deer this week ( Bedford County). The pattern from opening weekend has completely changed. Trail cameras are showing deer feeding under moon light but not during daylight. A few bucks new to the area are showing up on camera. Weird racks is how we know they are new to area.
