This kid knows how to catch em. This creek is about the same size as the Harpeth. Gil and B.D. you should appreciate this since he's fly fishing. I'm pretty much TNdeer's young guy but this guy is at least a few years younger than me.

Makes me want to get out one or two times this fall with the sweet corn and see if I can't get a few more commons before winter sets in. It's pretty much just bass, panfish and stocked trout for me during the winter. Although I do have a goal to catch catfish this winter.

Gets me all fired up! The Whitlock Near Nuff Crawfish is the same fly I used to catch my two biggest grass carp.

Now seriously, how can anyone poo poo fishing for any species? A tug on the line is a ball no matter how ugly the fish.

man you are spot on. Harpeth is overrun with buffs (native) but not half as many carp (invasive). Buffs don't fight half as hard but are still fun to catch. I either catch them by accident when carp fishing, or in one case, sight cast a fresh caught nightcrawler and catch one on 6lb test.

That kid doesn't always catch big carp but he does know how to fly fish for them. Early in the video he broke one off that he said was about 40 pounds or 4 feet long, which was probably an exaggeration, but still that is a decent fish even if 3 feet long.

Someday I'm gonna get a fly rod and start carp fishing with it. Hope I don't get too sucked in though, I love my spinning gear too much :grin:

Just as I expected.... go ahead and do whatever you want that is allowed, because if it's allowed then there is absolutely nothing wrong with it and you can get on as many nerves as you like as long as it's legal.

Good grief I can't post anything regarding carp or "trash" fish for the few here who actually enjoy those fish, without getting stupid comments. If I say "not for the carp haters" then maybe I mean "don't bother looking at this thread if you don't like carp".

I'm just trying to share what I like doing and I know there are at least a few here who like them too so I post stuff sometimes. I've decided to leave the bowfishermen alone, now can you leave the carp fishermen alone? This is the TN Fishing forum, not the TN Bass Fishing forum...

I am just going to say it the only fish thats a trash fish is a smallie there the color of $h1t and I have caught bluegill with more fight in them for ther size compared to a smallie I hate a smallie and would cut the line than reel in that garbage ;) Now I sure like them gold fish they put up a fight ;)

well I won't go on weekends during the summer.. then there are jet skis, pontoons, and a lot of idiots out there as well. Dale hollow is on my list of lakes to fish.

well I won't go on weekends during the summer.. then there are jet skis, pontoons, and a lot of idiots out there as well. Dale hollow is on my list of lakes to fish.

Not gonna get on any boatable body of water in 2012,and not see boats,I think you have the wrong conception of a bass boat going 60mph.I goes by,its over,the fish dont leave and go somewhere else.Not sure going from one spot to another is "selfish",just moving,and going 60 gets you there sooner,so you can fish longer,boat less.Idiots on jet skis dont bother me all that much,unless they are really coming close,fish are used to it.

I find it funny as it seems the most undesired warm water fish are really the most colorful and beautiful..ever tilt a drum in the sun light checking out all the colors..... but my son loves anything from a two finger Bluegill to the biggest "Trash Fish" in the water...his dad aint much different.

When did I say it scared the fish away? That's not the point... I've heard of bass boats running too close to other fishermen and boaters, rocking small boats with the wakes, etc. No courtesy from some. I know I'm generalizing but it seems like bass boaters only care about their way of fishing.

ditto that. Drum aren't ugly at all. I can see why a carp is considered ugly but there is nothing wrong with drum in my eyes. It's a fish... they all pull your line like Gil said and that's what fishing is about.
