Working on nest predators this weekend. Picked up a big male bobcat early am, then made a couple sets for crows.

The really come to the call well. Killed 7, but couldnt find 2.

We used to do a lot of crow hunting growing up. A bag full of decoys and a crow/owl fight tape and speaker and it was hours of entertainment.

Yeah, you did well for sure. Crows are tough. Tell us about your blind or hide? How did you set up for them?
I dunno? I just sat under a tree in a field, put the call 20y out in front of me and they came in. No facemask, no camouflage cap, just what im wearing in the picture. After my first spot, I picked up 3 dead crows and used them as decoys putting them out in the field on my second spot.

Could have shot a half dozen red tailed Hawks as well. They came in as good as the crows raising all kinds of hell. Pesky federal protection laws kept them safe 😀

Im probably doing it wrong, as I had a bunch flare off at 80 yards. But I missed another 6 or 7 I should have killed if it weren't for my terrible wing shooting skills.

Love the simplicity of it. Just goes to show that less is sometimes more. Nice

It can be a lot of fun. I had to recheck the regs, and noticed the Fri, Sat, Sun only restriction was lifted for part of the season.

Were you shooting #6 shot?

Funny story... A bunch of years ago, I found a crow roost in a grove of pine trees on the AEDC waterfowl refuge. I called a buddy about having one heck of a crow shoot and he was all in. We set it up for the last weekend in October as after Oct 31 there was no entry into the refuge. He came down from Nashville and we both had a half case of shells (a case was 500 back then). We set up and waited for the huge flights of crows...none showed...NONE! Later on in the year, I ran into the area manager and told him my story and he laughed his azz off. He went on to say that the last week of October they had been shooting carbide cannons of to scare the crows off the roost. Damn!

Dang bad timing 😂

lol crows didnt see a bobcat.

brine it and treat it like dove or duck
Because they often scavenge meat from carcasses, do they carry parasites and need to be thoroughly cooked?

I eat my duck and dove rare, and almost prefer it to steak. But i dont care for either well done.

Ill breast out the ones I kill tomorrow, but I bet I wont like them unless they are safe to eat rare.

Man, wing shooting in this wind is horrible! Shot at 10, only killed 1. Most of my shots are in the 40 to 45y range, so I think I need to drop down to #6 shot from #5, and need to step up to a .700 choke from a .710.

The first one killed makes for a great decoy on other sets!

If you gonna eat a crow you might as well eat a buzzard lol. Them things will scavenge anything!!! With that being said I do know a man that eats them and says they're delicious
