Not a Food Plot Planter Need Some Help!

Ok guys I need some help...I just got permission to hunt 1500 acres of prime mountain top property in an undisclosed area :whistle

I have access to the equipment the property and the seeds...What and when do I start...I will post likely start bush hogging soon...Please any educated advice will be appreciated... :)

First thing I would do is get a soil test

Soil test NOW. Then start bushhogging soon. Spray gly 4 two weeks after bush hog and start planting towards the end of August first of September.

What type seeds are you planning to plant and how many acres?

the one thing I would add is if you are going to lime go ahead and lime stat. I would bet you would need at least 2 tons per acre in any mountain area in Tennessee.

You could bush hog, plow (probably whats needed if the soil hasnt been turned in a bit) then have a lime truck come and dump over top. I plant the second weekend in Sep. for my hunting plots.

I look into a mix of winter wheat and clover for the first year as the clover will help put some nitrogen in the soil.

Thanks bowguy I will have to plant sooner or later cause I will be in Idaho elk hunting :grin:

Worked on a farm most my life but never learned to plant properly just always done what I am told... :)

I have free range of some property and dont know where to start...Thanks guys...I would say its too late to lime so it will be bushhog, plow, plant, fertilize probably...
