I'm going to make my first trip of the year to the north CNF tommorrow and was wandering what some of you have been seeing this year? Are the deer in the bottoms or up high on the mtn. Are they still eating acorns or are they gone now? I usually go in a mile or 2 just to try to get away from most of the heavily pressured areas.

In the places I hunt in Johnson and Sullivan there are more acorns on lower half to lower two thirds of mountain.

Ok thanks. I don't ever get my hopes up for killing a buck but I love walking way back in the mtn trying to find that honey hole spot but no matter how many miles I walk I still see the trash and sign left behind from other hunters. I can always find some good big buck sign to hunt tho.

Good luck! I am opening my season Thanksgiving Morning at BSF and thats where I will most likely hunt this year. I would be interested to hear what you find in CNF both are pretty rugged terrain. I think I found my spot but there may be a dozen or more that think the same thing about the same spot.

Plenty of acorns all around, seem to be most plentiful around 2000 to 2500 ft. Elevation. I'm not seeing a whole lot of movement. I've seen a few scrapes and some monster rubs, but nothing but little bucks so far. Let a 4, two 5's and a maybe 3 1/2 year old 6 point walk. Good luck.

Yea it would have to be a pretty good buck before I shoot one in there as far back as I go even tho I usually hunt up hill from my truck it would still be a chore gettin one out of there.

Yep, 2000-2500 is the main band of acorns it seems.
Find the does and you'll find the bucks.

Good luck.

I hunted between bumpas cove and Clark's creek today and didn't see as much sign as I have in years past and no big buck sign at all. I bet I did see 75 piles of bear crap tho lol. I guess I will try a spot on buffalo mtn next.
