whatever you call it, how would one go about looking for catfish in holes around this time of year? always wanted to try it but never have. Not sure where I would start. Just look for holes in rock wall banks or mud banks or what? Do you have to go with people who know the right spots to look?

Over at the 96w bridge by old Hillsboro is some good holes for noodling. The west wall of the river there right on the north side of bridge is loaded. It's a bit deep now but you'll get you some there.

grabbling here. noodling is a whole 'nother thing. areas of large rocks that they can get in are good. one of the best spots i had is a riprap bank along some railroad tracks and bridge. undercut banks can be good too.

Back in my hold my beer and watch this days I would have been all over this.

Now I`ll hold your beer and watch. Maybe even take a video.

are there any big cats in there? I've been fishing there a lot lately mainly for carp and the biggest cat I've seen recently was a 3-5 channel I caught last week. Are there big ones in there?

If you've never been or you aren't going with someone who has, starting off with smaller cats is your best bet. It takes a little while to get used to putting your hands on a live fish in a hole, especially one that will bite and fin you.

there's plenty with size if you're willing to get up in the holes where they hide!
what have you personally seen or heard of from that hole?

Been a while since I targeted cats there but historically it has been a big cat hole can't say they are the biggest cats you'll ever see but if you find the right spot there are some double digit cats in there. Old man Gentry used to tell us about hand grabbing there back when he was young.

probably ain't the same now with all the people fishing down there and keeping fish. But might be worth a try. I have never met mr gentry but have always wanted to.
