my 4 wheeler all of a sudden has no take off or top end power. It is like it is stuck in second gear if you will. it starts slow then at 6-7mph it starts to catch up and goes well until it hits 25-30 and that is tops.

barely will climb a hill. idles well. Its automatic. Yamaha kodiak. 2006.

I have removed and cleaned the carburetor and it had zero build up or trash in it, or the jets. I changed plugs, I removed filter. oil level good. I am stumped...but thinking something to do with the transmission.

I had an artic cat that the belt got wet and did about the same thing. I will never own a belt driven four wheeler again. And diffenetly not an artic cat. But try the belt.

The only reason I didnt think any of that is the engine doesn't rev up like a clutch is slipping. And it just all of a sudden did it...my son and I rode it all over last Saturday and it ran great as always... Then I was riding it this friday and all was good. Going up a steep hill. Made it fine. But whe I got ready to pull in the barn it barely would go up the incline.

Ok, check brakes off list

Now, running and moving are two different issues. Does it start, idle and rev up in neutral ok?? If so, rule out powerplant (motor)issues.

I am going to say, rule out a wheel/axle bearing and you stated it rolls freely in neutral

My brother works on these things all the time, it is what he used to do for a living and still does part time.............he says "CLUTCH"

Well I be dang. Pulled clutch cleaned and greases it. No change. Decided to pull carb one more time. I guess I just didn't clean it good enough heated up the low end jet and a piece of build up shot out like a bottle rocket. Put all back together and we are Rollin great again. Woohoo.

I am thinking you had a combonation of issues from your initial post. Glad you got it figured out.
