Nitro Question

The last two years, I've had nitro shells not go off on birds in the field. If you read my post from earlier, i had to pump and shoot three times before my gun finally went off this past sunday. I'm thinking that the problem may be my old 835s firing pin, or the nitro shells. I was also wondering if any one has had any experience with this happening to them while using nitros? And if this is something that happens regularly with these shells. I did notice that the primers on the shells were barely even dented in at all.

Pin, never had a problem nor have friends who all shoot them.

No problem with firing Nitros in my Remington 870. I have had issues with "short shucking" and am not sure if it is an issue with the gun, shells or just me. On my last bird this year, I made a conscious effort to shuck a second shell in the chamber. After recovering the bird, I checked...no shell in the chamber. I've since lubed everything up good. Maybe this will help.

Never had this problem. I have never heard of this before and I know four other hunters that shoot them regularly.

my buddy has an 835. His gun started doing the same thing, all though he was not shooting nitros. One shell would fire , the next shell would not. Always had a dent in the shell where it hit. Took the gun to a gun smith had it worked on. No problems since. I think it had pump issues. The pump seemed lose even when a shell was in the chamber.

Some of the older Mossberg 835's are known for this exact problem. Its the only reason I sold mine, as it shot great, but I just couldnt take a chance, as I also used it for deer hunting with a slug. I know several people who have had the same problem. Its very likely the gun and not the shells, as Its happened with many different brands.
