I've only had one Nikon Buckmaster but it was a 6-18X40mm and every rifle I mounted it on required nearly the full adjustment of left windage to get it on paper at 100 yards. I sent that one back on warranty and quickly traded it towards a Leupold on the sample list.

I've got one of the 6-8x40 Buckmasters and can't say that I'm that impressed with it. The glass quality just isn't that good but then again it's not a big money scope.

I'd go with the Monarch if you can swing the extra jingle. I have no complaints with my Buckmasters 3-9X40.

Lately I've been going down in size rather than up in size for whitetail scopes. I really like the 2-7X32 I have on my muzzleloader. I seldom shoot it over 6 power. You may be hunting in areas where you get a lot of 300 yards shots, where the higher power and larger objectives have a benefit. For me, I go for light gathering and field of view, and I mount it as low on the gun as I can.

I had a Nickon Monarch on my Savage ML-II, I replaced it with a VX-III 3.5-10x40
I have seven VX-III's, a vari-x III, and a couple of VX and vari-x II's.
I have a Bausch and Lomb Elite 3200 on my squirrel gun.

No problem out of mine. I've got a few on various guns. Honestly can't remember which scope is on what caliber, but I know I've got one on my muzzleloader and another on a 30-30.

HillBilly is a Nikon racist! LOL! JK!

I have a 3-9 and a 4-12 Nikon Monarch, and I regularly shoot my Dads Nikon Buckmaster 6-18. As far as clarity, I like all of them better than my Leupy VX2 2-7, not to say I dont like my Leupy, but the Nikons are brighter.
