I have a Springfield 1911 A1, it is the standard 1911 no bells or wistles.It has the plain sights on it and they suck!.Would it be possible to have my gunsmith put night or target sights on it?
 
It would be very easy to change out the rear as it just drifts out with a punch. Dont know if the front is soldered or pinned on those.

I looked it up.. the front sight is staked in so should be no big deal for a gunsmith to change it out.
 
replaced my stock sights on my 1911 Rock Island with Wilson Combats.....HUGE improvement and i think I paid $65 total....that was parts, cutting dovetail, everything.. i think it is a much better system than staking.

night sights are going to run you a little more though. Your looking at 85 bucks for the sights alone.
 
I really like the XS big dot sights on my Glock. I'm 46 and my near vision ain't what it used to be. I need my reading glasses to shoot well with standard stights but I can still do pretty well unaided with the XS. They're definitely not target sights for precision accuracy, but for quick shooting in poor light they're hard to beat. Pretty dang pricey but worth it for me and my situation.
