Couldn't pass it up. TC Compass in .308. $239 at Gander Mtn new in box. Will be a good beater truck rifle and backup teenager rifle. Has 5r rifling, but I can't find the twist rate.... prob 1 in 12. Pretty cheap stock with plastic triggerguard, but action and barrel seem decent.

I have 3 of the t/c Venture rifles. 300 WSM, 280, and 308.

You won't regret the purchase. Only complaint I have is the magazines are engineered to SAAMI Spec. No loading out here unless you do what I do and settle for a two-shot rifle. Even then, gotta be careful.

Your twist is 1:12.

Interesting, my Venture 308 is 1:10.

I see the mag length issue pop up quite often. Has anyone looked at modifying the mag (probably possible on a blind mag) or is the opening in the action too small

The same removable magazine appears to be used for a variety of calibers. The manufacturer inserts a plastic shim to meet SAAMI specs. I have considered drilling the plastic or removing it. I really don't like doing those things as a replacement magazine is over 40 bucks. Rifles are accurate anyway at SAAMI length.
