I've hunted my whole life in MS and on private lands, fortunately.

Now I live in Chattanooga and am trying to learn the ropes of public land hunting. I want to make sure I'm by the book and respectful of others while being safe. Some of the locations are basically in town.

It baffles me that some of these areas can even be hunted, and raises a lot of questions that I cannot find clear answers to on any TWRA web pages.

I'd appreciate any help with a list of questions I have so that I can get to be safe and not do anything wrong in the process if this is possibly the place I could ask. If this isn't the place, I'd be happy to start a thread in the correct place.
 
If I'm wanting to hunt the North Chickamauga Creek in units I understand crowds and hunters will always be around and will just be something that is part of using public lands.

Can I scout for turkeys on the TWRA property as long as I'm not using any calls to mimic turkeys? I'm really just trying to get a lay of the land more so and have get my bearings on the land. I just haven't seen another sole out there so wondered if I am allowed to scout. Can I use a crow call to try to locate at least?

If my wife wanted to come with no gun. Just to see what it's about, does she need a license?

Other than always know what you are shooting and what is behind it and be respectful of others and not crowd or get in someones space. Are there anymore unwritten rules I should know about.

Tags are new to me but they seem pretty straight forward with the app.

Any advice is appreciated.

Yeah I plan on doing that. Just wish their dates were a little more open as far as days to hunt. And north chick creek is very convenient to hunt before work. Thanks for letting me know about the manager.

www.tnwildlife.org will answer a lot of questions. I have it on my Android and carry the print editions for hunting and fishing to clarify any questions as different WMAs have different regulations. The WMA will have the name of the manager who can answer any questions. I have one that is good about returning calls even though it might a couple of days, depending on his work load.
