New to this site! Caney fork question?

Hi yah, I plan on fishing the caney fork river the next couple of days. I have never fished it before. I plan on fishing for anything that will bite but likely for trout and stripers. I just need some advice what are good lures for trout fishing and good lures for stripers in the river. And what part of the river should I fish for each species.

I have a friend that catches the rock fish on a large top water lure. He has a honey hole but not sure where. I have never been with him but any one he takes he blind folds in the way there lol. So I can't help on location but the top water plug seems to work.

I think you will find that the trout and the rockfish are not in the same part of the river unless you fish the generation. The trout will be best from the dam down to betty's island with the most action above happy hollow. The rockfish will be closer down to where the caney dumps into the cumberland. If you are goin after trout and you are a bait fisherman, use corn, worms, and berkley powerbait. If you are using lures, try spinners, small cranks, and small jigs. I have not fly fished in years down there but we used to do well on tellico nymphs and wolly buggers.

REN and I went a couple of weeks ago. We caught several trout on the Trout Magnet lure, but they were mostly small ones.

My buddy with the TWRA fisheries dept says minnows should work well. We didn't try it.

The best advice I can give is to just get out there and fish! I too did my home work before going for the first time. I was overwhelmed with information from so many people so I decided to just wing it using the TWRA maps and watching the generation schedule (http://www.tva.gov/lakes/cnh_r.htm). I didn't catch a fish my first 2-3 times on the river but I've since learned a lot.
