Good Luck with it,but we need to know what smokin asked before giving any imput.

Get the manual and read it twice before you even load it. BP can hurt you bad if you don't respect it.

The book will also recommend a starting and max load. Well, my book did. Stick with what shoots the best not the most powder.
Best of luck,

Its a conneicut valley arms 50 cal
which model cva has made a bunch of different 50 cals. sidelock or in line? is it #11 primers or 209? barrel length?

Good gun.
For an inexpensive load try a hornady XTP mag bullet 240gr or 300gr over 100 gr pyrodex pellets.

You can try pyrodex 777 if you prefer, a little easier cleaning.

A relatively inexpensive MZ bullet/powder combo that gives great performance in my CVA's. Really puts the smack down on deer.

Just be sure to shoot it a bunch before season to make sure your gun likes the load you choose.

If it's an optima, try 2 pelletts 777(100grain) powder and a 295 grain powerbelt. Myself and 2 friends all have the optima, and that particular load shoots perfect in all 3 of our guns. We shot saturday, and at 100 yards we're all in 3" groups. Swab every 3rd shot
