New String ??

It is hard to keep your finger on archery equipment since it is always developing at a fast pace. I am a bowhunter more than an archery nut and don't do a very good job keeping up!

I shoot a Mathew's Legacy that I bought new in 2002. I had the factory string and cables up until 2007 when I had a set of Winners Choice put on.

I have really not shot that much the past several years. I have not had a convenient place to shoot. I have shot enough to stay tuned for bowhunting and that's it. I have noticed that my field points and broadheads no longer have the same point of impact, which they did for several years.

I noticed a proshop in my new town so I stepped in, just to talk. So the guy makes his own strings and he was give me a hard sell on those. I don't know him or anybody who has used him so I am reluctant to go with his custom strings especially since Winners Choice worked out so well for so long.

Do they still make a good string, or is there somebody else now making better?
 
I do not like winners choice strings . It seems to me once a company gets so big ,their quality control goes down . I have used Matt's(Energy wave) strings for a few years on all my different bows and have never had an issue . Be careful getting sets built by people who have no reviews , I am in the process of putting a bow back together for a member here that had problems with a small shop who made their own strings .
 
I'm not a fan of Winner's Choice either—especially the over-inflated cost for a string that may take 100's of shots to get everything settled. It is absolutely true what has been previously said...once a company gets a certain size and starts doing more automated work, quality control goes down because they are mass-producing every set, or letting someone with little experience make strings for them. It is hard to beat someone that has years of experience and still makes them by hand. However, on the other hand....you don't want someone "learning the ropes" with you either--check reviews as BH163 said.

That being said, I am a huge EnergyWave fan. Matt has made my strings for years and still makes them himself by hand and has the best service/warranty in the business. He has a few proprietary processes that really make his strings what they are and he takes his time with each set as well. If your gonna need them soon, I highly recommend you order them now, as this is the start of the busy season for the string makers—they will be waaaay behind in a few short weeks and will stay that way until September—they just announced deer season was gonna be held in the fall! :D :D
 
Dropped my (new to me) bow off to Matt at Energy Wave today. Had EW on my last bow and had no problems.
 
I know a lot of the custom strings seem to be better than the mass produced ones....I've been shooting archeryshack strings for almost 2 years now and have been pleased.
 
I am shooting custom made strings made by Dixie Strings LLC. Gent is out of Temple GA. and makes some of the finest strings I have seen or shot. His strings are really great quality at the best price on the market I have found. Any Color or color combination all at the same price.
