New rifle question

Considering buying a new rifle and not sure what caliber i should get. I have been a ling time 30.06 shooter with no complaints but thinking of buying a 6.5 PRC. From
What i have read, It is basically a magnum 6.5 creedmore but itbis a new round that cam out in 2021. Any opinions of 6.5 PRC or experience with it for deer? Other thought is a 300 win mag for if i ever go to alaska which probably will never happen but possible.

I have a 6.5 PRC and will be buying more going forward. The only downside is finding ammo and barrel life is not fantastic, but nothing to worry about for a hunting rifle. Ammo is becoming more readily available and less expensive. Ballistically it's great and holds over 1500 lbs of energy to 600 yards shooting a 147 gr bullet at 2910 fps. A 165 gr accubond out of a 30-06 at 2800 fps drops below 1500 lbs of energy somewhere between 400 - 450 yards.
 
Some of my decision on the 6.5 prc is being driven by rifle choice. I really want a Franchi and they dont offer the 7mag or i would jump on that. They only offer 300 wm

6.5 PRC is a little less than a 270 and is right around 16 ft. lbs of recoil energy. The 6.5 CM is significantly less at around 12 lbs and the 30-06 is around 20 lbs.

Since having shoulder and neck issues, less recoil is important. I have a cheaper 6.5 CM that shoots great but been thinking about selling a 7 mag that I will most likely never shoot again and looking closely at the new Bergara Ridge Carbon in either 308 or 6.5 CM. I think it will also come in the PRC so was curious on recoil. Will probably just stick with the creed if I go that route because I already have that caliber and ammo. But I like having different calibers too and been leaning towards the 308. :)

Unless you plan on hunting elk or something larger, the 6.5 creed with a good bullet is a great deer cartridge. I shot this 150 lb or so hog at 237 with a 6.5 creed and she went 10 steps.

I love shooting my 6.5 prc by far most accurate gun I've ever owned. As far as deer I don't know. I shot one deer with a 124 grain hammer hunter. I killed it but it was tuning and I shot it again. I would have had to track it. I'm gonna try different bullets.

Agreed. Between myself and kids, we've killed several out to 160 yards the past few seasons with the 6.5 CM. It's a great deer round even if it does get made fun of and comes with a man bun. :)
 
I have never really been that into "new" rounds and scared of ammo access but i appreciate the feedback and think i will try it out
