Fixing to order a new rifle in a couple weeks, I'm budgeted at 600 for the gun. What would be best bang for the buck at that price range or should I just order another Mossberg Patriot and add the left over 200 to the 300 scope budget?

Savage or Tikka is my preference. Both can be had new in that price range, less for used. $300 can come really close to buying a Luepold VX3i 3.5-10x40, which is a great hunting scope

I would go with a Tikka.
I would say it's as close to a custom gun out of the box as you can get. Iown Savage, browning, Remington and several custom rifles. If you start with good quality control on the front end, all else is icing on the cake. Since so many manufacturers are distributing economy rifles. The quality has really gone down..the Tikka is slightly more expensive but worth it

If you can spend a few more bucks, the Bergara B14 Hunter is a fantastic option. I have a number of them and all are extremely accurate. Also, they are a Remingotn 700 footprint so finding aftermarket parts or triggers, scope bases etc, is really easy. Finally, the guys that run Bergara are legit gun guys who really care about their customers. I couldn't speak more highly more about my experience with them.
