Pond finally finished at new home site, it looks bigger than it is, dam's about 90 yds across, 10-11' deep when full, if it holds water. The river is about 150 yds behind it

Nice, the truck is great for scale. Now for the ultimate test, will it hold water? Hopefully it has adequate clay content which should reduce/eliminate soil permeability.

Hopefully with key way cut down to red clay, then another 2-3', no limestone showed up, D6 compacting dirt, plus had someone needed to move 30 tri-axles of good red clay, should be good.
But you never know, may need to fence a put hog's in it for a while

TN, building a new and hopefully last home, Montgomery Co. on 67 acres.

Oh and my brother works for NRCS, called me constantly making sure I was doing it right...lol

Awesome! A pond is on my list for next year. It looks like it will be really nice. Are you planning on planting trees around any edges?

Did the trucks run over the dam?Dozers arent really any good at compacting dirt, worked with heavy equipment for 20 years.A pick up truck will compact dirt better than a dozer.Hope it works out, fencing in some hogs may not be a bad idea, just dont let em out and get loose.

The dump trucks backed in over the dirt every time, moved about 120 loads for my driveway off a job site of ours, its packed to the max.
As far as pickup, the operator told me to try that himself, thats why the pickup was in the bottom when I took pic, was running back and forth across bottom

good deal then, its all about weight distribution, all of a pick ups weight is on 4 small spots, while a dozer distrutes wieght over its entire lenghth of tracks.Full dump trucks are great dirt packers, should work great.

True, I have to deal with city & county road depts when building roads in our developments

That always gets my goat, so to speak. When we build roads they make us little guys compact, compact and compact some more and density test, compact some more and density test, but if you have a D8 putting in the fill, you can get away with pushing it off and and calling it good, at least that is what I observed here in Rutherford co.

My dad threatens to buy and old D8 and just leaving sitting on the job so that they will leave us alone!!
