People start posting pictures aging deer in June until February. Why is the deer always in .5 years?

I only post them in fall and winter and they are born in the spring so their will be a .5

Simply because that is what they will be if killed during hunting season. And to avoid confusion.

That .5 gives them a half a year forgiveness either way.

It's like a baby that's 1.5 yrs old. They are referred to as 18 months.

I don't think I ever heard any anyone say they killed a deer even aged deer, 1,2,3,4,5, it's always 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5.

My pet peeve is when a biologist at Facebook DNR ages a hunting season picture at 3-3.5 years old as if theyre confident that fawn dropped in November or December

My pet peeve is measurements like when they say he's 140 2/8 its a 1/4 not 2/8, I mean i get it but it hurts my brain to see it.

All the score cards I've seen do it that way. I guess it makes the math easier
