This is the epitome of what's wrong with College athletics. Money is no object. Education? Who cares. Let's steal a rivals coach. Contracts? Ha! Transfer portal?

My son was asked by Jerry Green to walk on to the Tennessee basketball team back in the late 90s. Instead, he took a D2 scholarship to focus on academics. I'm proud he did.

He played 4 years in front of 300, most of which were family. They traveled by bus and often returned from a game at 4am and then he'd have a class at 8. He's now a research pharmacist at St Jude hospital.
 
Lots of scholar athletes at the big boy schools also. You just don't hear about them.

And schools have been making billions off of the athletes backs for years, so I don't have a problem with the players getting a cut.

And while the NIL is taking it to a new level, big time college athletics probably lost its purity in the 70s.
