Thanks everyone and bow rifle and muzzleloader. I have gotten everything but the muzzleloader hopefully will have one before the season. Yeah I can shoot have it sighted in seen a couple jw if there are any techniques or things I may need to pick up at a store to help me out not feed I know you can't do that. And yes I have a little private land thanks in advance!!

Glean all the info you can from Tndeer. Take all advice with a grain of salt until you notice a pattern of certain advice being common among many hunters who are successful. That should help get around some myths but basically you want to find good sources early, travel corridors any time, funnels, bedding areas (mature hardwoods don't usually have consistent "bedding areas" due to the environment) find deer trails, learn fresh or old droppings, find where deer come to fields in evenings, which oak trees have the most deer sign under them, etc. if you have a lot of privet infested thickets I love these personally. Find just enough clearing with a good tree to climb and get a clear shot, and make sure there are at least one deer trail going through. During the peak rut, everything changes and deer can be everywhere but early season your food sources and regular travel routes are key. Hope this makes any sense and good luck.

remember this, I have a problem with this myself, don't shoot a deer that is still moving. Don't rush the shot and be sure the deer is completely stopped before settling your sights and squeezing the release/trigger.
 
1). Find acorns

2). Find a good tree to hang a stand

3). Be still and patient

4). Don't miss!
 
Seriously, I can't stress enough to find their food source in the early season. They can be oblivious to things the first few weeks. Look for tracks and droppings.

Also, have fun. Don't get discouraged if you miss or don't see anything.
 
Just find a spot on the land that looks good and hunt there a few times and try to pattern them and then move accordingly.
 
Take extra steps in making sure you are scent free. It won't matter how great a spot you are in, if they smell you its over before it begins. And play the wind.
But here's a tip that's off the wall- when you do kill a deer cut the scent glands off the hind legs and put them in a freezer bag and freeze them. If you hunt a different piece of land or area than where that deer was taken, get those glands out (thaw them night before) and take them to the woods. You'd be surprised at how that'll draw in deer.
But DO NOT touch them with your bare hand or use them where you killed the deer. It'll spook the ones that smell it.
 
If your huntin Roan Mt around the state park, just hang out be patient and quiet and it will happen. BTW, be in the woods the 1st two weeks of November!!! ;)
