New guy needing some help

Hey everyone, recently move out to east TN from Oregon and needed some advice to get started deer hunting out here. I sold everything but my rifle before I moved so I really have nothing.

I've been looking at the Cumberland wma areas and I'm planning to go scout on the next sunny weekend I have.

I'm looking to stay out of tree stands for now, but just need some advice on where to go, what to look for, and what to buy! Links to recourses are greatly appreciated!

My family lives in the Rogue River Valley (Shady Cove), Medford, Grant's Pass and Butte Falls. They are loggers. Salt of the Earth. I moved to Middle TN. after the service and married a Tennessee Farm Girl. I hunt an old family farm here now and love it. I can't wait to get back to Oregon BLM and family land though. Tennessee has great public hunting opportunities. In addition to our farm I have hunted LBL, Yahnali, Williamsport, leased farms and several other quota hunts. You are at the right place.

I am still struggling to find a good Steelhead slough or a salmon run here. Hope springs eternal I guess. Lol

I have family in grants pass too! I do miss blm land. I miss elk hunting the most out near Redmond in central Oregon.

Brandywaffle welcome to the board and East Tennessee. X2 on the great people on here and help. I'm sure you have heard on the TVA. They do more for the Valley than just make electricity. However, we want dive into all of that. Check out the below link. TVA allows hunting on most of their undeveloped land. Most of the land is near the lakes and rivers. For you that would be Norris Lake based hunting in Campbell County. This link will get you started with some more small patches of public land besides the WMA's. Go to the link and check it out. Just remember that TVA is a federal utility and weapons are not allowed everywhere. So do your research.

Check the Hunting Lease Forum on Tndeer at the bottom. You might find that a better way to go. Several within driving distance from Knox.
