New gun! red dot??...

So I sold the encore pistol and bought a Marlin 336Y in 30-30. Thought this would be a better shooting brush gun setup. I'm thinking about going with a red dot on it. Anybody had any luck with such a set up. I don't know a whole lot about the red dots. Im looking to stay in the 100 to $150 range.
 
I wouldnt have one.. if the sun comes up behind you the dot will disappear and you are up the creek with out a paddle.. been there done that!

would that problem be fixed if you get one of the tube type ones?
 
I dont like red dots. But the eotech i bought changed my mind. That thing is idiot proof. Put the red dot on it and it dies. Also turns iself off after 4hrs of inactivity. They are more expensive but they are nice.

I just really don't want to put a full scope on it. Im pretty confident out to 50 yds open sights. But id really like a little more help in the 75 to 100 range if I need it
 
Check out Primary Arms red dot scopes. They won't break the bank and hold up very well.
 
Thanks muddyboots and UPSman, ill have to put those on the list to check out. Got a little while to decide since I have to scrape together some cash first.
 
I wish I could afford the eotech or aimpoint... but those are way out of my price range and there i'm looking at spending more than what I paid for the gun...
 
For $100 the Primary Arms is the best deal going. Ive shot Eotechs, Trijicons, Aimpoints and a couple of other sights. These mfgs are in a different league and $ bracket. Yes, they are better optics no doubt but unless you're going to the 'Stan next week with your weapon, the Primary Arms sight will do everything you need it to do.

That looks like exactly what I need. I wonder if that's the only base for it? It would sit way too high for me. I might have to give them a call.
 
never mind, I see the removable base part now...Thanks for the help UPSman! As soon as i get the money together I believe I'll grab one of those bad boys!
