New food plot for next season

New to the food plot concept but have an acre pasture that is adjacent to a county road on the north side with an established tree line. The other three sides are all wooded with a sand ditch running through the woods on the east. The area is 1 acre with the side along the road being about 120 ft. wide. (the area is long and slender with maximum width being 150 ft.) I was thinking about adding extra cover from the road side for the deer by double stacking about 40 round bales along the tree line. This area is in the middle of our 300 acres. Any comments on the need for buffering the county road from the food plot?

You definitely dont want people knowing its there or you will just have problems. Be better off without a food plot than having one that can be accessed and road hunted or spotlighted easily.

X2, just asking for trouble IMO.[spotlighters, road hunters, etc.] Only way I would put a food plot within sight of any road would be if I could put some sort of screening cover along side the road.
I don't even want my future clear-cuts within sight of the road, I will leave a buffer zone between the road and the clear-cuts.

I forgot what that plant is called, but I saw someone on here that planted something that looked just like marijuana as a buffer along the road. That might get you another kind of traffic, though.

On my place I planted pines along the borders. It is unpleasant looking to most but it is beautiful to me and the deer. I also try to "center" my plots on my property as much as possible. Doing this helps me cut deer off on thier way to the plots by hunting my property from the outside in. Less pressure, feels like more huntable acreage and my neighbors don't know what I'm doing. Deer love it and so does my freezer.

That just depends on what kind of neighbor you have. LOL I help pay for and plant my neighbors property. In the last four years I have only planted one food plot each year on my property just so I could plant his.
