Anybody seeing any new faces with the weather? Going to go scout around some local spots this weekend. Friend had a few show up at his pond but I haven't seen anything major yet.

Will pull 3 cards when I get down out of the stand. Small property so two of them are very close together and the third in on a persimmon tree in my front yard lol

I deer hunt some but don't get that into it so I don't have any cameras. But, the main pond I hunt on the farm has an old fence post right in the middle of it & it'd be perfect to put a camera on.

Going bird hunting in the morning so that will help pass the time. Don't expect much but know where a couple coveys are hanging out if they haven't moved.
Just heard what sounded like a BIG flock of canadas come over the house.
Wish it would have been daylight so I could have seen them.
Headed to gooch this morning about 8:30 to put a few dekes out and look around.

I hunted deer hunted Long Point Ref this weekend. I heard lots of ducks and geese. Mallard, Widgeons, Gadwalls and some Canadas.

On a side note, I have seen some very cool trail cam pics of ducks.
Just came back for ND and ID duck hunting. In ND, the birds were pushed out from the blizzard but have started moving back into the PPR. Mallards were starting to show up in good numbers at the end of last week and there was a steady stream of snows moving in.
In ID, faced some single digit temperatures, but there wasn't a lot of duck movement. Most of the still water was under ice but the rivers still had plenty of open water and there are plenty of grain fields for feeding. Mild temperatures this week doesn't look to improve the numbers.

I was on the tractor Friday about mid day. I live right off the French broad river in Sevierville. I looked up and their were three tundra swans maybe 20 yds high. They had pitched down over my food plot because it's got oats and rye about 3" tall and picked back up when they saw me on the tractor. I see ducks and geese all the time but I've never seen swans before. Funny part is, I've got a North Carolina swan tag laying on the kitchen table that I drew this year but I don't think TN has a reciprocal agreement on the swans. Hahahaha. That was nov 1 and I follow the Mattamuskeet NWR on FB. They winter thousands of swans and they posted that they saw the first swans of the year on Friday as well.

We saw more swans is random places last year than we ever have before. Pretty wild when you see 30 lb snow geese at first and somebody instinctively reaches for a gun...Errbody yells STOP!

I didn't find any around the house last weekend. Looks like we're getting another front tonight but I haven't had a chance to look what it's doing up north.

The stump in the bottom center of the pic is a well-established salt lick in the middle of a chestnut oak stand. It's in the Obion River bottoms near a creek. When the river rises enough, the creek backs up and puts a little water (or a lot of water depending on the river) in front of the camera. The woodies like to hang out on the edge and eat acorns. I've gotten lots of cool pictures of them at various times. Also gotten pics of otters and beavers there. These are not "new faces." Just resident woddies that have been hanging out all summer. However, with the recent rains there are several places near us holding water early and I'm hearing good reports of big ducks ducks starting to gather there.

Saw the first flock of cranes Friday afternoon & another bunch on the way home Sunday.
Deer hunting yesterday morning in the same place I bird hunted last Sunday & I heard geese & mallards, but never laid eyes on either one.
Got about an inch of snow on the ground this am and temp is around 20.
Going to be a busy week for me but I may find some time to check a couple holes see if anybody has showed up.

Saw a big flock of geese come over the deer stand Mon morning. Only headed north though. Lol
Later had some locals fly east to west as they usually do. No ducks on the pond yet.

Saw a group of about 60-80 mallards working the lower pool on Gooch on Monday. Looked like they were looking at Ruger's decoys that he has out 3 weeks early ;)

We were there Saturday and saw a female bufflehead, two woodies and 8 mallards. LOL

Cranes everywhere today. A good size flock must have roosted on the farm next door. When I was wrapping up my deer hunt this morning they streamed over a small wood lot lower than I've ever seen them around here. Usually they're high in my part of the world before they start their initial descent into Barren River Lake.
Didn't hear or see any other fowl this morning though.
