New custom long range stick

Have a new rifle on its way, which I'll use whenever I want to reach out and poke something.

Specs:
Defiance lightweight action
Proof Research Carbon Fiber barrel, sendero contour chambered in 28 Nosler
Manners EH1 stock painted Kuiu Verde
APA Gen 2 little Rosie O'Donnell brake
Jewell trigger
Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50 w/ Moar-t reticle

I plan to develop a load using the new Hornady 180gr ELD-M bullet. A .796 G1 B.C. at 3250-3300 should fly pretty flat :shock:

The Nosler advertising team has done a great job with the 26 and up announcements. Thinking of getting a 28 or 30.

The 28 Is the only cartridge that really intrigued me, but IMO it's the best design Nosler had.

I plan to start with Retumbo and 180gr ELD-M, however I already have some Berger 195gr EOL on hand that I'll also try.

I read about a lot of guys getting great results with the 195 EOL and RL 33 but I think it takes an 8-8.25 twist,

So I developed a load with 180gr ELD-M's and Retumbo and found a great accuracy node at 3175 fps. Back in October I spent a weekend shooting this rifle and load out to 1400 yards and this is just a killer long range setup; the incredibly high BC really shines at that distance. I also shot my 6.5x47 PRS rifle but had fliers most of the weekend which I suspected was the barrel on its way out... and it was; having a new Broughton installed on that rifle now.

I plan to take this rifle out west with me this year for an antelope and mule deer hunt. I spent last weekend developing a load using the Berger 180gr VLD's as these are my preferred hunting bullet and the 195gr EOL's had very inconsistent meplats.

180gr Berger VLD
3.650" COAL (touching lands)
83.1gr Retumbo
Avg 3222 FPS SD 7

Shot a 1" group today at 300 yards. Now if October could hurry up!

Well to be fair, I've had this one for a year now and ~125 rounds down the barrel. I have one more rifle being built now and then I think I'm finally done.

What are you building?

A 280ai for long range. It is another semi custom like the rest I have. Built on a 700 action, bartlien 8 twist heavy varmint finished at 26 inches, timney trigger, grayboe terrain stock inletted for badger dbm and aics mags, apa gen2 little b brake, gen1 razor on a 20moa rail with vortex precision matched rings holding it in place. Once this one is done I want to build 2 ( another 280ai for hunting and a 6x47 lapua for varmints and plinking) more but they will be full customs and I will step up a little on the components.

I'd say your components are pretty spot on and great choice in the 280AI cartridge! Those APA brakes are the best I've used too.

I'm hoping not to run the brake much but it is nice to have for spotting shots. The 280ai has been a dream of mine for a good while now and it made sense to buy one set of competition dies to use between 2 rifles. I'm starting off with the 162 eld match and see what I can get with it. I may step up to the 175 but want to see what the 162 does first. When I build the 280ai for hunting it will be pushing a 160 accubond no doubt.
