New custom 30-06

Looking forward to developing a 178gr ELD-X load for my new custom 30-06 and might take it as my backup rifle on an elk hunt later this year. I'll start with RL26 as it has performed well for others and in one load for my other 30-06.

Specs:
Stiller Predator Action
Bartlein 2b barrel fluted and finished at 22"
McMillan Classic in Edge fill (brown with black speckles)
Timney 510
Cerakoted in graphite black

Rifle was built by Southern Precision Rifles

Weighed in at exactly 6.5 lbs bare, so it'll make a great carry and backpack rifle.

Yep I do indeed favor the 30.06 caliber and this is a very fine specimen.

I do see a few imperfections so let me slide by and pick it up, I'll take care of them for you...won't be overly long, few seasons is all.

I agree. It's not flashy nor the hot rod or wind bucking cartridges used today but it just flat works well. While I have migrated mostly to long range shooting and lean towards 6mm/6.5mm/7mm cartridges, I will never be without a 30-06. My personal experience has shown that 30 caliber cartridges work better for most <500 yard hunting.

Stiller does produce a good receiver, although I'm still partial to Borden over all others for a hunting rifle.

Greg Young is a pretty good shooter also,,,I saw him shoot a hen egg at 800 yards with a 115 DTAC from a 6XC ,,,

Im really interested in how this all ends up shooting! SPR is within a mile of my other house and I don't know anything about them! If I still lived over there Im sure by now I would have gone by to check it out! Im curious what kind of work he turns out, ya never know when I might get the bug to build a rifle and it would sure be nice having somebody that close to home do it.

Im curious what kind of work he turns out, ya never know when I might get the bug to build a rifle and it would sure be nice having somebody that close to home do it.

Huntaholic,,his website is Bugholes.com ,,he does more PRS match rifles and magazine fed type long range hunting rifles than benchrest rifles but the rifles I have seen that he built were all very nice and shoot really well,,

he offers a really nice system for Rem rifles that uses a lock nut on the bbl like a Savage that you can install yourself ,,the nut he machines himself is really nice and looks like it was made at Rem and fits the factory stock,,for a long range hunting rifle or steel plate shooting his rifles will shoot as good as anybodys and they are finished really nice also,,

Thanks! I will check him out! As bad as I hate thinking about it, sooner or later my 300 ultra is gonna need a new barrel. There's only so many times you can fire off 96 grains of powder until things start to open up and Id venture to guess Ive put 1k rounds down it.

Tried my go-to load of H4350/165gr NBT this weekend and it shot very well.

As Mr.Big said, Greg builds excellent rifles and is amongst the best. If you need a build and he's local, it's a no brainer.
