bought a rem 700 lss a few years back and have killed a couple of bucks with it, but really didnt like the laminated stock, i have a serious walnut addiction and find it hard to hunt with anything that is not. so shopped hard for a really nice cdl stock. finally found oneith w the grain and coloration i was looking for. new takeoff never had a round shot through it, 135.00 to my door. found a new vari xIII 3.5-10x40mm on ebay that had never been mounted and got it for 350.00 to my door. a buddy i cut hay for gave me a stainless shilen trigger. all i lack is the acraglass to bed and she will be ready to shoot. really like how she looks and feels and the walnut stock is at least 10 ounces lighter than the laminated. very pleased so far.

Not bad looking for a M700. ;)

Nothing like good wood. I find myself checking out my wood when I'm in the woods, in the fields, and even in my home when I have my wood stocked rifles out. No telling how many deer I may have missed admiring my wood stocks.

yep. those are what was on the original lss. those are leupold lows. think i will go with talley extra low. i think i will have enough clearance for extra low

i here ya. i am more of a kimber or mod. 70 lover myself, but i really like this cdl stock. nothing like walnut. why anyone would take a stock this nice off and replace it with a plastic stock that cost him twice as much is beyond me. but i am sure glad he did.
 
That's a sharp lookin rifle you've put together. Just can't beat the looks of a nice wood stock.
 
Nice looking rifle no doubt. I would scratch that pretty walnut stock first time in the woods and I would be mad as a hornet at myself. Thus the reason I opt for composite stocks on all the guns that I actually hunt with.
 
The scratches just add character. My main deer and coyote rifles are both walnut. I like to see a well worn not abused wood and blued rifle.
 
I'd be carefull with the extra low Talleys. The bolt may not clear the rear end of the scope. I run lows on all my 700's. Sounds like it ought to shoot when you get it done.

i hunt hard with all my walnut rifles. in the words of the great Col. Craig Boddington- "scratched walnut is still prettier than new plastic"
