New Call

This may already be a topic, but I am looking at getting one or maybe two new pot calls. What do y'all think are some good choices??

What surface (slate, aluminum, ceramic, crystal, etc), or do you have a preference? For a general recommendation, you cannot go wrong with David Halloran's pots. There are other call makers that I like more for certain surfaces, but David offers a lot of options for a decent price, and he builds a solid pot call.

No preference. If I decide to get two, I would prefer two different surfaces. I'm just looking for something different. Been using an old Primos ceramic for years and I feel like it's finally time to shell out some money and get a new and better one

Lon Trice builds a good pot as well. I am thinking of makers who offer various woods and various surfaces for a decent price, and a call you will hunt with.

Hallorans new slate over glass with a maple and wenge pot. I love it. New for 2016. I got a persimmon one piece and purple heart two piece strikers to run with it. Easily gets loud but then can get very soft also.

Just listened to a couple videos of the David Halloran calls. I like the Metal Mouth and the Crystal Mistress. Wish he had a sound file for the wenge/walnut slate.

He has a soundfile on his Facebook page. The Crystal Mistress is a must-have call. I'll throw in Jimmy Schaffer from Oak Ridge Turkey Calls. I love his Atomic 13 aluminum call. He makes a great slate as well.

Also, why buy just two when you can buy three? I'd get a slate, crystal, and aluminum call. This is my favorite turkey hunting topic of all time...

If you are just getting one, Id go with the crystal mistress.

David hollarans crystal mistress is a go to
Take you pick with wood haven
Not a fan or hooks pot calls but many people are
Lonniesneed makes great calls
The list goes on and on with you talk about custom calls really and truly.

I'd go with the Atomic 13 or Crystal Mistress. The Atomic 13 is very versatile and can be played loud or soft. It's very user friendly as well. The Crystal Mistress has proven to be a very deadly call for many people. It takes a little more maintenance but is worth it.

.....it's an addiction!

One that can get costly real quick, but hey, it's a lot of fun. :) At the end of the day, you are splitting hairs when you start comparing some of the better call makers as none of them build a "magic" call, but all build something preferred by some over others. Setup in the right location and any call mentioned in this thread, regardless of surface or maker, will get the job done.

I knew there were a lot of pot calls out there, but I didn't realize just how many. Already looking forward to getting another one when I can! Also, saw in another thread about ordering the conditioning stone so I got one of those as well!

Good choice on a killer call, and yeah the conditioning stone is well worth the $5.. I got one as well with mine. Now the wait to get it in the mail!

I got it in a couple weeks ago. Been practicing on it quite a bit and I have to say it is a great call. Cannot wait to bust it out next Saturday morning on some toms!
