Anyone know anything about a new bolt nose conversion for a Remington 700 ML that works with BH209 or smokeless (with aftermarket barrel)? Thanks in advance.

C'mon BigD. You can't just start askin' questions about a 700 ML, casually mention smokeless powder and not tell us what you're up to :D

I had talked to RatSnakeBoogy last season about converting a Rem 700 just to shoot BH209...for now. Don't have the extra cash to go smokeless yet. At that time, there was one kit for BH and another for smokeless.

I saw a thread on Doug's that said now Hunter makes a kit that could be used with either one. But, it wasn't Hunter that said it. I guess I could just message Hunter, but I thought I would try here first.

This is my Rem 700 as is. My better half got it for me for Christmas last year.

I almost bought a H&R 45-70 off of Facebook for $125, but it wasn't drilled and tapped, and I really didn't have the extra cash. And, it was in Tullahoma.

BH209 is the next best thing to smokeless. You've got a great platform if you ever did decide you wanted to go smokeless too.

Luke should have all the stuff you need to shoot 209s in your gun. I think you'll have to drill your breech plug out a shade though.

Hunter use to make the boltnose a little shorter for those who wanted to keep the factory barrel and use BH209. He now uses the same boltnose for BH209 and smokeless which if you wanted to use BH209 you trim the supplied new breech plug for headspacing I believe. Down the road if you want a pre-fit McGowen or Pacnor barrel set up for a Savage plug your set to go. You will still probably have to headspace the Savage plug but that's simple. Send Hunter a PM on Doug's. He will convert the bolt for you for $25 + cost of kit and his turnaround time is excellent.

Hunter does not make the 209 bolt heads for Savage/Stevens. Luke has another supplier for them.
