I sold the Win m70 30-06 to a friend. My 11 year old daughter and I couldn't get used to the safety. She will now be using the Savage 11 .308.

I found a good deal on a clearance SS Tikka T3 30-06 for well under $500. Bought a Limbsaver and Warne 1pc Base for really good prices for it today. I'm trying to decide whether I should mount the Vx-2 from the m70 on it, or jockey scopes around again and move the Zeiss conquest to it, but these are good problems.

I'm happy with my new "backup" rifle.

Oh, I love the venerable old warhorse, but I don't use varmint weight bullets like Steve... Although I could be convinced, I guess :poke: :D

I have several rifles and I installed a Conquest on my Tikka '06, its by far my favorite scope.

I went ahead and took the Zeiss off of the savage 10 308 and installed the vx2. I will put the Zeiss on the Tikka and feed it 165 NABs

Hate to break the news to you but you'll never get the Tikka to shoot 165 gr AB's well. I couldn't even get mine to hit the orange with three 165 gr accubonds out of my T3 :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

30-06? A 6.5 Creedmoor is all you need these days,as it's the best cartridge ever created.

Haha

Oh, trust me, the magical 6.5 Creedmoor was VERY tempting, but I don't have much pixie dust around here to replenish it when it runs out of its initial charge...

I'm a YUGE 30-06 fan, and I think more than a few will find it ironic that I replaced a 30-06 with a 30-06 when I already own 2. But I already have bullets, brass, powder, and dies for the 30-06, and I can load it from mild to wild; and if I cannot kill it with a 30-06, then I probably won't be chasing it anyway. This fall, 2 30-06s will be following me to CO to chase the mighty wapiti for the first time. I'm confident that either of these is able to do their job if I am able to do mine. I'm not sure I can say that about the Creedmoor, although I may be surprised.

Wise decision.

Let me know how that limbsaver fits!

I just got this gun and installed the Limbsaver today. Fit is good but not great. Will try to post up some pictures later

I don't know if you can tell, but it is just a bit narrow on the sides. Not major, and only something that picky people would be picky about.
