New .22LR in the layaway

Picked up a new S&W MP-15/22LR and put it in layaway the other day. Im in love.

Question. A buddy of mine has a S&W MP15 .223 upper that his dad gave to him and he has no use for it. He said I could have it but what I wanna know is will the .223 upper work with the lower on my .22LR version of it?

I am almost sure they are incompatible, but I will let someone else second my opinion.
