Crazy how fast a coon can find a nest!
Was moving a gate in the back yard to lean it against the fence yesterday and flushed a duck off her nest. There is a pond across the road some mallards and geese have made residence at. Why she nested where she did is beyond me, had 12 eggs before dark yeaterday and checked it this evening to see if she came back but there were only 6 eggs...all in a nice neat row, almost like a kid had been playing in them and placed them back!
I put a cell camera up not a 1/2 before dark as I have chicken eggs missing from a sitting hen in a ground pen. I kinda assumed a snake but nope, got a coon on cam just after dark!
I trapped my hunting farm this past winter and caught 17 coons and 5 grinners but have started getting coons again on camera there.
I def have a goal in mind and plan to hit them as hard as I can.

You just never know. Turkeys, ducks, and the likes. Got reports today of a hen with 4 poults 5" tall in the wide open for 30 minutes at a watering hole at our place. An hour later, a SINGLE poult walked out in the front yard of our cabin under a bird feeder and walked on - WTH? It's likely doomed.

Long story short - there are little earthlings everywhere and we hope they survive 🤷‍♂️
